The Chronicles of Lizdeika:
Lizdeika was a chief priest/shaman in Pagan Lithuania during the thirteenth century. At that time according to legend, the Grand Duke of Lithuania, Gediminas, while on a hunting trip, had a dream. He dreamt that a giant iron wolf stood on a hill t op nearby and howled through the night. He called his head priest (krivu krivaitis) whose name was Lizdeika to interpret the Dream. Lizdeika revealed thet Gediminas would build an important and glorious city on that site. That city became the beautiful Vilnius, which remains to this day the capital of Lithuania.
More on Lizdeika:
It was said that Lizdeika was found in an eagle's nest by a prince who raised him to become High Priest of Lithuania. It was known at that time that the high priests could change forms and speak to the gods in dreams.
It is thought by some that Lizdeika changed sometimes into an eagle, an owl and into a wolfe to better communicate with the gods in his sleep.
The following paintings depict Lizdeika in several of his various forms in Lithuania's ancient history. It also shows him occassionally communing with wolves who may have been his messengers.
